In an interview he mentioned being hesitant to put this on the album because he started to hate it after working on it for so long. He said "I mean, it's almost Christian Pop," so I don't know if that means it's a song about God or if it just sounds like it could be.
I reckon it's because it SOUNDS like Christian Pop (i.e. about God) when actually, I don't think it's about God at all. I think he's singing about someone he loves. She is his 'light', and just thinking about her makes him feel less depressed about his life, makes him forget all his troubles.

You'll find that many (most) 'positive' songs about love or experience of love etc. can sound like they're about God as understood in the Christian tradition at least, and most other faith systems too I suspect. Can be enjoyed either way you like it I guess (or both).
