The first line is referencing the 1982 movie Fitzcarraldo by Werner Herzog. The obsessive will needed to create the film is known to match the character in the film's own obsessive will. (Similar to Coppola and Apocalypse Now). The making of the film and the film are very similar! The reference is fleeting, obscure and does not have an obvious and concrete connection to the piece. This, like many of Bejar's allusions, seem to give the song a feeling more than anything else. The first line of the song, along with every other line, is dense enough to be it's own artwork so his songs feel like accumulations of already complete wholes. One could probably construct an intricate cosmology by connecting these lines but it won't be anything more than a particular instantiation of the general idea of the piece. Reviews of art should be looking directly at the general idea! Viewings of art should be trying to contact this general idea!
