A Lesson Never Learned Lyrics

This is a conversation between the singer or writer (Danny?)and God. It starts with Danny asking for help. The next verse is Gods reply. It alternates back and forth verse by verse. {G} is for God and [D] is for Danny. You can cut and paste these verse interpretations beside the original lyrics to get the message.

Writer / Singer Danny [D] is talking. Please help me I am all f***ed up. Really deep down inside I know the real me is better, but my soul is rotten. I have sinned. Help me.

God {G} is saying to the writer and perhaps you the reader/listener... Give me one reason (and there is only one reason which is to not believe in God). Give me one reason and you will regret the day you were born and the day you die

[D] Asks are you with me or are you doing it without me. It is time to choose your side. Meaning it is time for [D] to choose God's salvation. The "your side" meaning to be right with God. It is sort of a soliloquy, him talking a bit to himself. It is time to choose the side that God is on.

{G} says/means that when you choose his side, salvation, then it is the end of the world. i.e. [D] would die, his world as he knew it would end and he would be born again into a new world. And {G} would still be here wasting away waiting for the salvation of another (perhaps you).

[D] says listen to me, the real me. Get up. I have chosen. Being on my knees now will achieve nothing. It is time to take action. The prayer part is finished. God has accepted {D} and now {D} must start living as a Christian or begin living the Christian experience. (There is a distinction.)

{G} says open your eyes. Wake up. Come alive. I will never regret your birth, creation, existence again. I stand above you, I am your God. You have accepted me.

[D] says/means I have been helped. I do not feel this/the pain or effect of sin anymore. I am saved. I can't carry on the way I used to. I would be lying (hiding) denying the new reality of salvation.

{G} repeats, it is up to you, it could be the end of the old reality for you and I would be here waiting, looking for the next sinner. I will still be here.

[D] states the life goes on and on and on. A fing hell. F. Sort of recognizing that {G} is right. Without {G} it is hell on earth. Earth filled with pain, war, despair, disease, rejection, lack of true love, anger over and over and over. With salvation comes forgiveness and the end of hell.

My Interpretation

this interpretation actually makes sense, apart from one thing: what does danny mean when he says "im the closest thing to a god you'll ever know?" it all makes sense apart from that bit...
