i think this song is about a combination of things, the first being that missy higgins is bisexual, and she is being viewed differently by small minded people who treat her like shes evil, and shes talkng about having to hide her feelings, so that people will see her as a person and not judge her by the gender shes attracted to, but its killing her and she just wants people to see her for her and stop hiding and when she does a lot of people turn their backs on her and her music, because they dont understand, the second theory is that the girl in the song, is suffering with some sort of addiction and people are judging her based on what they know and not looking at how shes feeling, and so she decides to try to stop, but her world just seems to get much worse, mixed with the pain of trying to stop she realises more how terribley cold the world really is, and she starts getting sick from withdrawl, and dies but people dont see the person they only see the fact of the addiction, so they treat her like shes evil because they dont see what she went through... thats what i think
