To me it sounds like no one though he could make it big or amount to anything for the matter. Specifically family. He didn't care he didn't need or want help from anyone he's used to being a lone wolf because there wasn't anyone there to begin with. Or so it seemed. But, still he wants to know how maybe his parents are doing the still thinks about them it's family after all. He tips his hat into respect to the people that believe in him now. Even though he never wanted to be famous or to make it big.
