I think it's about two people who rushed into a physical relationship before they really got to know eachother. They try to make it work still, but after the physical part fades they don't have anything to go on anymore. Maybe they could have had a meaningful relationship if they had taken it slower, but it turns into a friends with benefits kinda thing and they're just going though the motions until they eventually move on and lose touch.
This has been my favorite song for years and yet I still ended up in a relationship exactly like it. I guess I should take MCS's advice!
