I don't see this song as being about asking another person to make them whole.
I felt it was more like a song to themselves acknowledging that there's a lot of ways that the speaker is imperfect - every verse depicts a situation where the speaker may not be successful or depicts a shortcoming.
From there, I feel the speaker is acknowledging that these imperfections may have led someone to leave them or they have simply become so extremely disappointed by the world they have nearly nothing left "to believe in".
Still, the chorus is more optimistic as I interpreted it to be more of a hopeful note or request to the speaker's inner self or inner strength - "Oh my heart, I want you to be strong, I need you to be all I believe in". This I took as the speaker admitting "yes, everything is disappointing right now" but there is one thing left that hasn't fallen apart and that's him/herself.
