I see it as the singer is trying his best to stay strong.. when he sings 'but you left, so I'm leaving too', he sounds like hurting, with resentment but willing to move on too. He might have returned to his hometown or the city where they 'were still in love' and he admits that it gets to him but he desperately wants to believe that once he leaves he'll feel better and move on. The chorus, 'you can say what you want but you got it all wrong' sounds to me as the girl has been talking bout him with other people, perhaps saying that he's not over her or that she feels sorry for him, etc... but even though it may be true, he's staying strong and not coming back.
