The meaning of this song seems pretty simple...but from the sound of the music, it makes me wonder if there is a story about something that happened with his mother...anybody know?
i don't think it's so much about his mother but about HIM being the exact opposite of how his father is. He states in the lyrics :he (his dad) is the grand optimist, i am the world's poor pessimist: meaning he's not a glass 1/2 full but a glass 1/2 empty kinda thinker, so he must get it from his mother.
