This song is clearly about Heroin addiction taking control over someone close's life. "Heart of Gold, but lost its pride" refers to the depravity and desperation a addict goes through to get his next high. "Hearts gone cold, hands are tied" "Intravenous intertwined" These lines refer to the hold that hard drugs take over you, to the point they take your free-will from you when you become mentally and physically dependent on them. The singer of this song is singing about how he sees this person "the subject of the song" in a different light "I see your face in a different light" is expressing how he knew this person before addiction and dependency took them over. So who can tell me was close to the singers life who went through this experience?
