I don't think it's specifically about religion or love, just that mankind is selfish.

We excuse lacking compassion, and having a competitive attitude, or to put it more harshly, taking a shit on your neighbors, by calling it human nature. Walkyier says we should call it as it is - our hearts have become diseased, corrupted. This doesn't have to be our natural state even if we tend to go that direction. We are all capable of choosing to cure ourselves of this condition ("be your own physician - heal thyself!").
