Although I have no idea what JT was thinking about when he wrote this song, to me it is a lullaby from a parent to a child. The parent is putting the child to sleep and telling him/her it's ok to close her eyes, as many children are afraid of the dark or being alone. At the same time, it is the parent creating a memory for the child, and assuring her that even after the parent has passed on - many years from now - that it is ok for the child to close her eyes and sleep, and be comforted by the memory of the parent's love. Luckily, there are sure to be many days between now and then that the parent and child can enjoy together.
Of course I am biased because my mom use to sing it to me when she put me to sleep, and I can't hear it without thinking of her!
