I'm thinking maybe if you read the verses from last to first you see that it's about the numbing of a child that eventually hides within itself. It begins in the nursery. Wandering (or enduring) your sadness the child who once gazed at a parent in adoration now has a sting in their eye. (AKA the teenage years). Then older when carefree days are over your try to be your own person (I try to speak) but end up echoing - my parents? Then ends with one being totally inside oneself - dead - like a ghost.

Yes - I interpret this amazing song very similarly. It is about the lost wonder and innocence of childhood with the realization that evil and death are present.It is about the idealization of memory and mortality.
