Wow. I got something pretty different from this song. It seems to me that "Mr. Maker" does have a really good life - wife, kids and money and all that - but I think he also has a problem, or at least used to. I've been listening to this song for a while and I used to think all the same stuff, that it's just about your typical family man, but I always thought that made the song a little flat, without much depth or insight. Also, I was always troubled by the lyric "because of the love he gave away." Now, in light of some recent events in my own life I think I've figured it out. I think "Mr. Maker" may be a recovering addict or alcoholic. That would explain the "love he gave away" as well as the "stay on your feet for me" line. But if anyone has a better idea of what those lines could mean, please tell me. It may just be my own life biasing my opinion of the song.
