I look at this song as the perfect way to explain the "odd" things people do. One one hand, his friends, what they see in him is this plain, ordinary guy. What they don't know is he really is anything but. Some people live the double life, whether it be in front of friends, family, coworkers/classmates, ... But, when they are not around those people, there is a completely different side to them.
It is interesting how a country act could do a song like this, and it gets airplay. I have always loved it.
