I agree that it may be about someone he used to love but I think it is more about her personal journey understanding the passing of time and the fear of death.
"Pussyfooting setting sun, make a wish that weighs a tonne, there are no handles for you to hold, and no understanding where it goes"
She makes a wish to the setting sun for more time/time to slow because she can't hold onto it.
"Jealousy in technicolour, fear by name, love by numbers street lamp amber, wanderlust pile in a blunderbus"
???
"She looks as if she's blowing a kiss at me and suddenly the sky is a SCHISM (splitting or parting) sitting on the floor with a tamborine, crushing up a bundle of love, don't take it so personally, you're not the only one that time has got it in for honey, that's where you're wrong"
They were in love and and would talk while playing music and doing drugs? about time and he's telling her that were all in it together, the fight against time... A little fuzzy but that's what I get from it, great track though, love the guitar interludes.
