Personally I think this song is about someone watching another lost in a terrible depression.
The tree is symbolic of the person the singer is talking about. He's asking them to shake off the troubles and wash them away. The teeth marks represent the fight that the person once had and the singer is relating to how he misses the fight (liveliness).
The singer misses the person that they used to be even though the shell of them is still around. And he's doing whatever he can to try and bring some kind of life back "I'm a black cloud/Sending lightning to the ground". He asks, "show your teeth," as in bring some of that life back again. Fight again and the singer can stop worrying enough to get some sleep. "Human skin can be hard to live in," is representative of someone depressed over whom they've become and what a change but don't know what to do so they've basically given up.
