There are a lot of great ideas about this song so far. But for me it goes just a step further. It's not only the place that can make a home, home. I think its also the people in it. At the beginning the protagonist is alone in a strange new world where they don't feel comfortable. They just want to get back home. As the song progresses they begin to realize being with these other individuals helps them feel more at home.
Cause I'm home
There's a little white porch
And you wanted it so
Could you let me go down
To the end of the road
In the black and white
Technicolorful life
If you watch the movie Dorthy is at home when its black and white. That is what she considers normality.
When she gets to Oz everything is in color and its all strange to her. Also I see this as a crossroads in the persons life. They are at the end of the road where everything behind them was home a place where they belong, and right in front of them is this strange place where they aren't sure what could happen.
What I want from this world
What I want is resolve
This part I interpret is the person asking themselves what do they want to gain from the world. Should they stay at a place where they feel like they belong or step into a brand new world and explore?
Well I want you to stay
So I want you wait
I don't wanna be bold
I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna grow old
I wanna go home...
At the very end they are saying they don't want to be bold and travel to this unexplored area where something could go wrong. They fear failure so instead of chancing it they ask this other person, their rock, to stay with them in a place where they feel they fit in and don't chance anything.
Just the way I hear it. Let me know if anyone agrees/disagrees. Either way great song!
