I believe this song is more about Mexican-American immigration than gay marriage, though gay marriage is clearly a strong theme. In my view, it's about love between a Mexican girl and a girl from the US, who fall in love but due to immigration laws, they can't truly be together. It sound all fun and happy but whether it's about gay marriage or immigration or both, it's actually quite sad that they can't be together. :(
