I just performed this song for my music assessment. It was my favourite song on the Once soundtrack, and the passion Glen put into the vocals were just chilling. I had been practicing for months, and I'd got it down to a science. All except...the emotion. I didn't really believe in the lyrics I was singing, I couldn't produce even a fraction of the emotion Glen performed with.
All until, just fifteen minutes before my performance, I got a message from my boyfriend telling me we were over. I was stunned, couldn't talk, felt like i couldn't breathe. But as i went ahead and practiced my song in a shaky voice, it suddenly hit me that now the lyrics were perfect. I could feel every ounce of pain, frustration and hopelessness that was meant to be in the song, every word that i wanted to say was in those lyrics. I went on and played it to my teacher. And for my broken heart I performed much better.
Thank you Glen. This song mends and rips my heart at the same time.
