This song, to me, is about adultery. Likely about about Andy Hull and his wife. that's probably why he doesn't like talking about the song meanings on this album
some lines that stood out:
"And I bruise just like anyone would bruise" = I'm human and i make mistakes
Chorus = the house they built is their relationship that fell after one (or both) parties cheated.
"In time I swore I'd take the straight and narrow path but still won't
I hold his ear I'm only trying to do my job tonight
Kiss him on top his lips and crucify the fire" = sounds like he cheated while on tour and is trying to stay faithful but its hard, but at the same time shes cheating on him while hes gone
"Never really feel the same
never gonna be the same" = this ties in with the virgin title. the relationship was pure at first, but once they cheated once, the relationship will never be what it once was.
let me know if you agree/disagree. but I'm sure I'm right lol
Hmmm, Bronx, that's an interesting take on it and it could be true.

I wanted to address the part about "the straight and narrow path."
Hull uses very pointedly Christian terminology on this part.
When Jesus was going to be arrested and brought to trial, his disciple Peter reacts by fighting a guard, cutting off his ear. In the context of this Scripture Peter is "only trying to do [his] job." Then, Hull says "kiss him on top his lips and crucify the fire." This seems to make reference to Judas' betrayal of Christ. Judas kissed Christ to signal to the guards...

Judas kissed Christ to signal to the guards which one of the men present in the garden was Jesus, which eventually led to Jesus' crucifixion.
In an interview posted at http://reviewrinserepeat.com/news/2011-05-30/artist-insight-manchester-orchestra , Hull talks about the song's meaning a bit, saying that it's about sex, marriage, and the band. The song seems to point to this idea that just one action can screw up beautiful things that took so much effort and time to build. So, in that context, it makes sense that Hull references the betrayal of Christ. Hull seems to see Christ as this beautiful story of a man who in one night is betrayed and abandoned by the ones he held closest. Hull seems to see that, in a similar way, Manchester Orchestra can betray the trust they've built with their fanbase.

Actually, Andy himself says this song refers to the fans and simple math talks about infidelity. Check this out: http://youtu.be/nDUXJM8SBUM
