while I rarely try to interpret moe lyrics and usually just appreciate their jamming, four is one of those songs I have found meaning in. riding back to boston after my sister's graduation from college this song came on and it really resonated with me. I know it obviously wasnt the intended meaning when moe. wrote four but I interpret it as that long periods of time go by quick (i.e. four years in college) the whole "it was so easy" part is not like whatever that was went through was easy in terms of difficulty but it went by so easily/so quickly.
I have no idea about the four sleeping dog lies. again this is just how I take the song which is how songs should be taken. yes writers of song have something or a number of things in mind but using music to your own personal interpretive power is something all listeners should take advantage of.
