Anyway, the interview story helps immensely, before I read your comment, I always figured it was about a girl, it just seemed for likely. I personally figure it is about a girlfriend that is cheating on him, but won't come clean about it. Denies it when he asks her, but practically everyone else in town knows it except him, and he's left in the dark for what people assume is for his best. But he's pretty certain of what's going on, only adding to the frustration in his girlfriend's dishonesty. The other, slightly dumbed down theory: She acts one way behind his back, with her girlfriends(ie, talks shit about him), but is completely different around him, in a artificial, saccharin sort of way.
