The Morning Lyrics

Lyric discussion by pedroprimo

Cover art for The Morning lyrics by Weeknd, The

It's a song about prostitution.

"From the morning to the evening Complaints from the tenants"

He's talking about the noise coming from the rooms.

"Got the walls kickin' like they 6 months pregnant"

Means he's fucking a girl so hard it's almoust like a baby kicking the womb (beautiful stuff by the way).

"House full of pros that specialize in the ho'ing Make that money rain as they taking off they clothes"

Here we got no more doubt it's about a whorehouse.

"Push it to the limit Push it through the pain I push it for the pleasure like a virgin to the game A virgin to that money A virgin to the fame"

Despite the vulgarity of the lyrics it never loses it's sad tone.

"Zombies of the night"

This part always makes me shiver. So simple but so real. The girls that work on those places are just like zombies, living of flesh and dead inside. Really beautiful.

"Better slow down she'll feel it in the morning Ain't the kinda girl you'll be seeing in the morning"

I don't need to explain this part, it's just so damn powerful. He is going to fuck her more gently so she don't feel pain in the morning and also he knows he ain't gonna see her no more. The Weeknd seem to me like a kind of band that can talk about really bad stuff with sensitivity and keeness. Between the limit of rude and poetic. The morning by far, at least for me, the best song of 2011.

Sorry if some parts have any grammatical problems, I'm from Brazil and I'm not used to write in english.

Song Meaning

I love your interpretation, but I disagree with a few of them.

1) "Got the walls kickin' like they 6 months pregnant"

Call me naive but I think hear he might just be referring to the music being loud. Oppose to making the walls "kick" by having sex with a girl and making noise. (That would have to be really loud to disturb your tenants lol) 2) "Push it to the limit Push it through the pain I push it for the pleasure like a virgin to the game A virgin to that money A virgin to the fame"...

  • Call me naive but I think hear he might just be referring to the music being loud. Oppose to making the walls "kick" by having sex with a girl and making noise. (That would have to be really loud to disturb your tenants lol)
  • 2) "Push it to the limit Push it through the pain I push it for the pleasure like a virgin to the game A virgin to that money A virgin to the fame"

  • Although your interpretation that he's still talking about "Pushing" it in reference to sex is plausible, I disagree. I believe that he's actually talking about pushing it to the limit with his career/lifestyle in general (For Example- drug use, hookers, etc.) He supports my theory that it's about his life in the following lines, saying..-- "So this my only chance so when I'm over only pray That I flow from the bottom, closer to the top The higher that I climb, the harder I'ma drop" He's saying that he hopes he remains successful and continue his career without too hard of obstacles.
  • 3) "Zombies of the night"

  • I think he's referring to his crew opposed to prostitutes. I believe he's saying that he and his friends are like zombies because they're out so late and so zonked out on multiple drugs hence the next line- "Niggas ain't talking" He and his friends dont feel the need to chit-chat due to how tired and F'ed up they are.
  • 4) "Better slow down she'll feel it in the morning Ain't the kinda girl you'll be seeing in the morning"

  • Again I don't think he's referring to sex here. He's referring to drugs/alcohol saying she should slow down so she doesn't have a hangover the following morning from the different chemicals she is ingesting.
  • 5) "The Weeknd seem to me like a kind of band that can talk about really bad stuff with sensitivity and keeness."

  • I dont know if this was just a grammatical error since you're brazilian, but The Weeknd is just one person-Abel Tesfaye. But I do agree his dark lyrics are delicately delivered to where they can be beautiful yet evil all at once. I think that's what makes his music so unique.
  • I'm not trying to be a condescending douchebag, or demean you by correcting you. I just have great passion for his music and I thought I would add my input to your interpration. I did enjoy reading your thoughts though. I hope you appreciate my feedback! God bless!
