I think this song is about someone who has been recently broken up with. The vocalist keeps repeating that she doesn't want to forget (key word) how to say "I love you." She talks about the future and how if they go years without speaking, all of her intimate imagery seems to be prematurely reminiscent. Most tellingly, she wishes for whomever she's singing about to do well when they are no longer around her. Even though things are through between her and the subject, she's still hopelessly in love with them and is in denial that their relationship is over.
