I really like the line: "D’s still there in your old flat makin’ beats and still owns the night. While this street can still shape-shift and make you quicken your pace on a late night return - so I suppose we still have time"

it's like a comfort for that familiar nostalgic feeling that hits you randomly sometimes, where you remember a place, and you know you've moved on and so have the rest of the things/people that made that era good ... but he lets her know the street's still retained its power and our friend D is keeping at it, so there's still time

of course, I think the whole song is about nostalgia but I can sense it the strongest there and some here: I was back in a bar in New York, lower east side, when you shouted it at her. Maybe it was yourself. Maybe I wasn’t there. Maybe it slipped down between the years..

like that feeling when you're somewhere completely far away from wherever things are happening... and you coulda been there but you just couldn't be bothered to go anywhere but the familiar bar. and your friend has obviously changed too, she's been to South China and whatnot (while you were back in New York), adopted new philosophies, but is now a bit cracked, so would it be worth it to go? that's why you stayed, but you still think about it. in the end you don't care.
