This song was not written for Twilight. You guys keep saying that, but it wasn't. It is by a Danish band who probably had no idea what that movie was until they were asked if their song could be put into it. Can we please just enjoy and interprite the song as it is, and not with frilly sparkly vampires in mind?
Now, I personally think this song is about two people in a battle of some sort. Like the hunter and the hunted (I'll seek you out, slay you alive). The hunted is trying to defend themself (I'm not scared of your stolen power) and the hunter is very adament on murdering the hunted because of some emotional reason. (I won't soothe your pain, I won't ease your strain.) The hunted is trying to convince the hunter that it won't help to kill them. (I've got nothing for you to gain.) But because the hunter is so narrowminded on just killing the hunted, he becomes weak (Your spine is ablaze), and the hunted defeats him easily. (And just in time, In the right place, steadily emerging with grace.)

That's what I think, anyway. :)
