I think this song is about self image issues. I've heard this kind of thing is genetic, so that could be why this song is titled "Science."

The girl has her highs and lows. When she feels good about herself, her self esteem is so high that she wants to go out and experience life ("make you up, take you out"). However, when she feels bad about her appearance, she really suffers ("spin the wheel, watch it crash"). Her dress has transformed into rags, she's not the fairest one of all ("turn the dress to broken glass"). Because her feelings are up and down so often, she really savors the moments when she is confident and tries to reaffirm herself by examining her face for long periods of time or taking pictures ("take the time to make this last ... strike a pose and hold the flash"). Once again, genetics. She tries to convince herself that this is all "science" and she shouldn't be feeling this way ("I'm not the only one who's bleeding before the past is done repeating"). These frequent thoughts of her looks have even caused her to consider suicide or self harming ("gets underneath my skin, it won't die, this time if I can't win then I won't try to carry on"). She doesn't do it, but she does spend a long time being depressed but eventually she feels good about herself again, only to repeat the process ("tonight won't be so long, I'll pray for a miracle"). In the morning she wakes up feeling a bit better. She pulls herself out of bed and takes a look at herself in the mirror and forces herself to accept what she sees ("wake you up, pull you out, talk you up to calm you down"). But eventually, she's feeling bad about herself again ("turn it up to scream and shout").

... That's pretty much the gist of my thoughts. Phew.

@hundredskies An original interpretation for once.
