I beleive this song is about a poor or middle class boy who has caught the eye of a wealthy girl in their community...more than likely they dont hang around the same groups of people...she decides to give a chance and she realizes that she can be in love with someone of his class and enjoys the people that arent wealthy..but she still decides to go with the status quo and marries someone with money, which in turn makes her unhappy because she was truely happy with the first guy...
