Waving Lyrics

It seems to me like it's about war from the perspective of a civilian. So I see the 'I wave and I turn off the light' part really literally - waving goodbye to your family because it may be the last time you see them and turning off the light to hide somewhere. 'I'm clinging to the warm, bleeding trees' may refer to the wood of their house in the hiding place. Everything else is a description of the enemy soldiers, asking if they really know what they are doing and perceiving that they actually try to overcome their own problems with the attack of others.

Maybe I'm a bit too specific with the war-scenario, I don't know. It could also be about people who give in to their fear of loneliness by putting themselves into the center of attention and not letting other people have fun. Specifically it may be a girlfriend who does not love him. He just started to realize he is being used and finally decides to break up with her because he still does believe that real love is waiting for him somewhere. The warm, bleeding trees may be a reference to the long and sometimes painful waiting you have to go through for that in this case.
