i think this is a song that is more about a person who doesn't understand how another person could so easily fall in love with him. he is skeptical as much as he is in awe of it. i feel like he's looking at their position in this relationship of sorts (whether it's the intimacy of them waking up together or the seemingly routine comfort of her morning shower) from a position of hollowness. it seems he wants to feel the same things she seems to be feeling and showing, but he remains cold and empty in his heartm, and that it's largely because he's placed an elevation to what it means to love someone that he doubts she has truly arrived at with him. he's stressing to scrutinize every single thing about whether this real or not, leaving no stone unturned, but in the end i believe his cynicism persists... and he continues to keep his distance and sees her as a stranger.
