"We built a tall, tall tower Towards the sun, towards the sun Took some words and built a wall And called it love, called it love"

~The first verse is a reference to the tower of Babel, to which is cited as a part in the bible (Book of Genesis) where language had been diversified and no universal language was spoken, after the tower fell; to which God had spread the people in other parts of the world to speak their own spoken language.

~The tower of Babel can also be referenced as "Love", as the creation of love amongst people irregardless of race and diversity. Therefore, the creation of two people's love as the foundation of every relationship, as to being in love - is what is then referenced in this verse.

"Somewhere in all the talking, the meaning faded out"

~And as every relationship reaches it's peak (same as the people trying to reach heavens with the creation of the tower per se and after it's fall), confusion sets in and communication becomes a problem for any lovers experiencing problems within their relationship.

"You're speaking a dead, dead language You don't sound like yourself I hope it's just lost in translation So why don't you show, don't try to tell

~In this part of the verse, when two lovers are in an argument it is hard to understand what the other person seeks to define through ones words. And more often than not, sometimes words seem insufficient to prove or disprove a point given that ones emotions hamper ones way of thinking. Thus, making an effort to communicate properly not only makes it a barrier, but the confusion that the person feels disjoints oneself in the relationship, especially if uncertainties arise in the future of the relationship.
