I think it's definately about a difficult phase of your life, perhaps when a relationship isn't working as smoothly as you'd hoped.
A lot of the time I look for the hidden/deeper meaning in lyrics, but I think this is simply about a relationhip with a girl he has or had because of the female references in the song.
I think he's feeling that he is starting to really doubting if the relationship is working for him. He'd love to pull through and get to the other side, but he knows that it'll be difficult and it will be the equivilant of carrying the 'Weight of the World' on his shoulder.
'Maybe it's gravity that pulls her to my chest, not the fear that she is the source of what little strength I have left':
One of the best lines I've ever heard. It pretty much sums up the meaning of the song for me, conveying that he's naturally being pulled towards her because that is sub-consciously normal to him, in the sense of them being together, but she is sucking the life out of him.
Like I say, I always look for the deeper meaning but hopefully I've summed the meaning up there.
