I think it's about regret.
There's a dark side to us all, a "beast", and sometimes we forget to keep it in check.
What goes around, comes around, and now the "beast" "is running my way".
He regrets the bad things he has done, and it's eating away at him.
Some people say "How do you sleep at night?" as in, how could you peacefully sleep knowing the terrible things you've done?
Even though he's not forgiven, he still needs sleep and hopes for some peace.
His own regrets are preventing him from sleeping, and he just wants some peace of mind.
