I believe this song has to do with losing your virginity (or the lack of).

This is where I get confused with my interpretation...I believe I have the first part right, but in this verse, I view the narrator conveying the message that he's been left out because he's feels like he would never be good enough for a woman he views as attractive and would probably be met with someone laughing in his face if he even tried. With that being said...

Adding onto what I said above, the narrator knows that if you don't try, you can't fail. He feels like nobody would understand, so he keeps his feelings about love/sex to himself.

This statement reminds me of the saying, "true love is blind." It's when someone falls head-over-heels in love with another person and are left with thoughts that the other person can do no wrong.
