okay, I know this question was raised LONG ago, but how about this:
it's about a guy, who has had enough of his present (ex-?)girlfriend, and vows to rely only on his mother in future. so the girl is "down in the past" and his mother "will last". his mother has always been there for him and "she will make sure that you remember" might mean, that his mother is furious about the girl making him sad or angry or unhappy overall.
