I think that this is about John the baptist but could also be taken from anyone who feels that God or Jesus isn't helping them any with the lines like "In shadows I'm walking, and caught in loneliness, deliverance I wait for but how long?" Where the person either John or someone in general is looking to God or Jesus to do fix all their problems or save them from their grief. I believe the last verse though would be like Christs answer to their pleas especially the "They believe in me Look! The signs are near to perform my task, to perform my way to perform the way I walked, the way of the crucifix." There are multiple times in the Gospel of Matthew alone that Jesus says things like "Look! the time is near, the signs are near" such like that. John the Baptist was beheaded, though perhaps the last verse would be Christ's last plea on the Cross such as he did in the bible with "aloi aloi..." verse in Matthew. this is just my interpretation though.
