It seems like it's about letting go of a passionate romance thinking that you'll find something like it again anyway, and being comfortable with being alone for a time, but then realizing much, much later (perhaps when it's already too late) that even after finding everything you thought you wanted, what you really wanted was that one love you left behind because you didn't know any better at the time. Or maybe it's not even about coming back to longing for that young love, and it's just a cynical commentary that he'll "be right back here" to leave another lover behind again and again and the story/feelings will always be the same?
