Uh, to all those who say it's about suicide the cd single cover shows an ultrasound picture of a unborn baby. It's clearly about abortion. I read somewhere that the heavy playing at the beginning of the song is morse code for SOS or something. Thats similar to the video for the song "One" with the soldier who couldn't talk or write.

It's written from the point of view of the unborn child.

"Empty they say," Showing indifference. Abortion advocates say the act is not a big deal.

"Death" The abortionist.

"Say, is that rain or are they tears?" The unborn child rhetorically and mockingly asking the mother if she actually gives a damn.

"Year after year, life after life." Shes gone through the procedure several times over the years.

"…suicide I’ve already died. You’re just the funeral I’ve been waiting for."

I think the unborn child is saying that symbolically he has all ready died because the mother has rejected them before the abortion. But the unborn child is calling out to "death" to kill his mother as well. He wants revenge or something. He doesn't understand that the abortionist isn't death incarnate but just a physician doing a job.

This song is actually really disturbing because James is essentially making a point that if a unborn child is aware of what is being done to them that they could theoretically have a right to abort the mother like the mother has the right to abort them. Theoretically not in a legal way but in the purest most basic of human ways. The unborn child is naive and doesn't understand how the world works.
