Furthermore, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I believe initially, as a boy, he was a lively, unique boy excited about life. But as the years went on society wore him down and he conformed which turned him into a kind of souless, empty shell.

as said, we are left to wonder if he withered away, escaped, or.. died. And though I would like to hope he escaped, I have a sad feeling he withered away.
