The first time I heard this song it created an unmistakable image in my head of someone dying and moving towards the light.

I enjoy looking at the song as being written by an atheist with a very bleak look on life. The way I see it, he's been been waiting for death to take him away from his useless, inescapable life, but as he's finally passing away he sees the light, and finds a way out. (With this interpretation it definitely helps to imagine that the first line of the song is "oh believer").

Another way I like to look at it is from the point of view of someone awakening from a coma. As if they've become aware of the dream world they're immersed in, they can sense the vague sounds and touches of the real world reaching out to them, and they are fighting to escape the trance that has posessed them for so long.

Any way you wanna look at it, it's a another classic Radiohead song that reaches out, sucks you in, and evokes all sorts of emotions in you.
