I think this is about the relationship between Geoff and his wife if his wife was a vinyl record player and he was a record. I think this rings the truest for the lines at the end of the chorus. As if to say, only when he (the record) is together with his lady (in this part of the song, the needle) do they feel in love. After all, records can't make music on their own nor can their players. They'll need each other to sing love songs.

It took me a while to think of this because the part about him, the second verse, was a bit hard to translate. However when I thought about how a silver lining in the sky would look on a rough and ‘bevely’ record, it hit me. Like dirt on the ground. (the metaphor of how his hopes, his silver linings, fall about when he's removed from her aside. lol)

Honestly, I've read a lot of good and bad reviews on this song and I gotta say for those who don't like it, they couldn't possible see how, dare I say, 'deep' Thursday can be even when they make pop. That says a lot to how this band operates. Even when they seem to take it easy they go hard to make something worth while. I can't wait for 'No Devolución' for this very reason.

It's how i read in one of the comments of other song...

'It's amazing how poetic license can be so completely lost on some people..."

loved ur idea, cheers

I'd agree with this concept, but I think he is the needle.

"When he's removed from her..." --like lifting up the arm of turntable.
