Cover art for Time lyrics by Sarah McLachlan

I'll admit, this song really hits deeply. I can relate - as most all of us can. My version of interpretation is simply this:

"Time here all but mean nothing, just shadows that move cross the wall. They keep me company but they don't ask of me, they don't say nothing at all."

  • This could symbolize the need for solitude as shadows don't press any issues.

"I need just a little more silence, I need just a little more time."

  • The first part could signify that perhaps, though she's alone, he/she is still there; presence alone can disturb the silence that is already there. The second - obviously a choice or decision is needed to be made.

"You send your thieves to me, silently stalking me, dragging me into your war."

  • "Thieves" could possibly mean arguements or subtle hints of the current decision/choice (war).

"Would you give me no choice in this?"

  • Obvious the decision/choice she needs to make seems a little one side from the other party.

"I know you can't resist trying to re-open a sore"

  • Bringing up something or issue from the past.

"So leave me be, I don't want to argue. I just get confused and I come all undone. If I agree well it's just to appease you, 'cause I don't remember what we're fighting for."

  • Obviously she doesn't want to argue about the issue; she's confused with what decision to make.

"You see love a tight thorny thread that you spin in a circle of gold. To have me to hold me, a token for all to see, captured to by your's alone."

  • She's married and he's displaying her. Tight and thorny signifying that she's not comfortable with the "fit" of marriage.

"For courage to pull away, there will be hell to pay, deeper you cut to the bone."

  • Signifying she wants to leave, but knowing the consequences.

So, overall, it is about her deciding on whether or not to stay or to leave.
