I find this song to be the most woeful in reflection of Nick Drake's life as a musician. Considering how he was unable to find lasting appeal in his own time from followers of music, the idea of being left behind bears semblance to the way in which Nick and his music had been left behind (disacknowledged) by that of the public and other musicians who adorned greater success at the time he was alive and active as a musician. The world was simply not ready for his music and the things he had to express, with the musical world leaving him behind and carrying on without him.
