I think the first part of the song describes the condition of being safe but also unsatisified in some way. "We are a ship without a storm" -> This ship may be safe, but ships are also built to withstand storms. "The cold without the warm" -> something fulfilling is missing (no warmth). That's the reason to abandon the old safe condition and move towards an uncertain but thrilling future: "We may never never never come home But the magic that we'll feel Is worth a lifetime". This song clearly is about the importance of taking a risk. Or put in other words: Get off ya fat ass, go out and reach for the sky!
