It says inside the cover of Remains that this song isn't actually about war. I really doubt that Matt Skiba's lying because he doesn't want Alk3 to look like a political band, as someone suggested... Also, I'm pretty sure that the lyrics "trusty chords" are a reference to the Hot Water Music song; I spoke to someone who was ~apparently~ told this by Matt.
ANYWAY, whatever Trio wrote it about, it's one of my favourite songs by them and I can relate to it on a very personal level. I have the lyrics "those trusty chords could pull me through" tattooed on my back :)
