because the theme of her artwork is literally an obsolete world. the characters she paints make their first and final appearance in each of her paintings because they are the last of their species.
their world existed before ours, and now we are here.
but we each have some kind of primordial knowledge of the last world... but it's not accessible, especially in our conscious states. it drifts in and out of sleep...
it could also very well not be literally referring to the obsolete world of her art, but more to some kind of primordial consciousness of something greater that we're all forgetting...
