I love this song, but the lyrics bother me. The second verse implies that homeless people have no faith in God- that when bad things happen to people, it's because they don't believe in God. "If I should walk the streets, no place to sleep, no faith in promises You keep."
The rest of the verse makes up for it a bit, and is what I ultimately take away from this song. "If I live my life to trust in You, Your grace will see me through." Maybe I'll still physically be on the street, my heart and soul are in God, so I know that at least those two things are well-looked after.
Still, I hope it was just a moment of poor song-writing and not an actually indictment of homelessness and general ill-fortune. Faith in God doesn't ensure worldly success- it just makes you able to deal with both the good and the bad.
