Here are my two cents. This is a great meaningful song. I would agree with the above comments but i would like to add that this piece could have a spiritual side to it. Like the fact that god had to send his son to earth to die for the sins of humanity. In other words He had to let Him go. Also the last line in verse 2 could be referring to Jesus' death so that many other could "grow" to know the Father.
