I'm biased because I'm going through a tough time in high school right now, but I think this is a pep talk to someone who's going...well through a tough time in high school. "Just wait a couple more years and you will have it all," is basically saying tough it out and it'll get better. "Grasping for sand" seems like a desperate want for more time, when you feel it slipping away, like you're going to wake up 20 and realize you spent your teen years moping around. "They will be gone, just wait for your turn, say goodnight say goodnight and this will all be yours." Obviously it's reassuring the person that the people they don't like in school, or the people that are on top of the world, will soon move on. I know what it feels like to be impatient and just wanting to get on with life and be successful, but you have to suffer through the wait and the work to get there. "When the room does fall and your clothes don't fit, well they never fail, they've never had it all so don't you worry." I could be wrong but I hear "fit" not "mend."
Course like I said...teenage girl here...fitting into clothes is kinda on my mind most of the time I breath...

Sounds like you've got it right, it's about people who have a rough time in high school (i.e. everyone).
